Cab Impulse Response Megathread

I really wish the Ashdown IRs would be released in a file format my IR loader can read. I've used Ashdown ABM speakers for over 25 years and really like them. Nearly every other cabinet type is represented (Ampeg, Trace, GK, Orange, Mesa, Eden), but no love for Ashdown.

i agree - the proprietary sims are a pain with flexibility.

i've been trying to set up a modeler live rig: Helix Stomp, for example, but i'm spoiled with my other VST sims.

the Helix bass amps (Native) aren't that convincing.

Brainworx Ampeg and Bassman are excellent.

For GK, the Audified GK model is great! Also ToneSpot Bass Pro.

Mark Studio 2 has an amazing selection of fantastic sims and cabs.

i would love a VST loader in pedal format - no Windows/Mac tablets on stage.

I'm pretty new to IRs, but i've recently got involved due to me completely revamping my setup. Using a Load box, i've been taking the output of my Ampeg V-4B (pre and power section, the whole lot) into an IR/Headphone device for silent practice and recording.

My load box is the Two Notes Torpedo Captor and it's fantastic for what I need it for (brilliant attenuator too!). I picked up a Two Notes C.A.B. M+ to partner it for the IR/Headphone purposes as mentioned (just seemed logical to me, as i'm using the two together). I haven't jumped onto the remote app yet and maybe i'll find it more intuitive via this route, but I find the interface a little confusing/fiddly (I like as straightforward and clear as possible - having severe ADHD is a killer, especially when there's so many options with things, Ha!). It seems to work pretty well though - however, i've noticed the output from the CAB M+ is on the low side, and I do struggle to get decent volume levels in my headphones (AKG K240s). Maybe I haven't explored the device enough yet and i'm making too early of a judgement. I've been curiously looking at the Darkglass Element - I wonder if it would be a better option or if I should just stick with the CAB M+? One of my reservations on the Darkglass though, is there doesn't really appear to be much info on what cabs are on their Darkglass Suite. You'd of thought there would be a library online you can look at for reference, but there's nothing on their site (unless i've missed something?), seems a bit strange to me. The bluetooth functionality does look good on the element though.

What are some people's experiences with both devices, has anyone owned both?

Is anyone able to provide me with a comprehensive list of Cab options on the Darkglass Suite? From the info I could find, they don't appear to have any Ampeg based stuff, which seems strange given the popularity of them.

what’s the element like for loading third party IRs? - same question re the CAB M+

Just trying to draw up a list of pros/cons for either, as I need to make a decision pretty soon.

Thanks guys

I would certainly explore the app first, I don't see a use case for IRs that the cabm would not cover.
Thanks, think i'll do just that. I do like the sound of the CAB M+ from the little i've used so far. What's it like loading third party IRs do you know? I assume you can do this via USB on a PC/Mac?

In regards to my headphone volume - i wonder if it's worth turning the virtual mic levels up on the CAB M +, rather than just the master output.

SND has a free set I find usable

apologies as I'm sure these have been posted previously in this thread.

The following impulse responses were recorded at several places by
GREGOR HENNIG .

Mics were usually placed on axis at a distance of less than one inch. Room mic impulse responses have a "rm" in their file name.
The recordings were done with Lorenz ÜV-300, Focusrite ISA 215 or DAV Broadhurst Gdns preamps and an Apogee PSX-100. Deconvolution was done with Voxengo Deconvolver.
This is a collection of what I set up for several recordings: none of the immediate responses is meant to be representative for the gear that I used.
Most impulse responses are parts of setups built as an entity of several direct and room mics and may sound insufficient when using single impulse responses.

I have recently purchased Redwirez BigBassBox. I am trying to upload them to my Atomic Bass Box. Tom at Atomic has verified that Redwirez will indeed work with their Bass Box. My Q is which wav file do I load in? When I open the folders to upload a file, there are many, many different ones. For instance, I am trying to load a B15 IR but there is different folders for kHz, and then inside are many many different files for what I assume are the different mics and mic placements. When I do select one, I get radio silence from my bass box. What is the proper way to do this?

It sounds like you've got the procedure correct, but let's see.
First off, were the Redwirez .wav files in a compressed zipped folder? If so, fully unzip them.
When using the Bass Box Editor, you select the drop down arrow next to any of the CAB slots, and you should see:
upload_2023-7-11_13-51-2.png

You select "From File..." and then navigate to and select the Redwirez .wav file you want.
You should then be able to hear the loaded .wav file, but remember the pedal has an "amp/cab" mode 3-way toggle switch, so to hear the .wav IR assigned to, for example, the bottom position slot (8x10 SVT in the pic above), put the toggle switch in the bottom position on the pedal. ( This also selects the "amp" that is paired with the cabinet for the selected position.)

If you're hearing nothing after doing this, can you get sound back by selecting one of the stock provided cabinet IRs?

As for which .wav file to select, you should be fine with a 48kHz .wav 32 bit or 16 bit file. If you don't know what mic or placement you prefer, then you'll be spending some time auditioning. It's all up to your ears. But first, see if you can get a .wav file loaded into the Bass Box.

Is there any IRs for amps for bass box?
