FREE Software Thread - Utilities & Applications You Cannot Live Without

I am curious as to what you have found. People have asked me about this, but without a video iPod, I have no need to try any of the potential solutions.

Any luck?

I found one using the link - called Handbrake. Seems to work realy well, except on copy protected VDV's ....

I gotst a question...
anybody else use Trillian?
anybody have any idea why mine is suddenly crashing if I leave it running for very long?
its getting ridiculous...
I asked my Dad, who introduced me to trillian, and he doesn't really know.

I use trillian a lot, my daughter and son both leave their's logged in for days on end. Is there a specific error message? What chat are you using Trillian for (Aim? Yahoo? etc). There should be an error listed in the "Status Window" that may help. Finally, check the Trillian support forums.

I use trillian for msn, aim, and yahoo...
and when it crashes, it just comes up with a message that says it encountered an error and crashed.

I also think its screwing around with my internet connection...because my connection kept getting lost every time I tried to sign in, and then I closed trillian all together and now connections just fine...

I'm looking for software that lets me write musical notation on sheet music on the computer using my mouse and keyboard. It doesn't need to play back or be midi controlled. I just want to write and print music that I create.

I was looking at Finale Notepad, but I'm not sure that will do what I want. I'm looking for freeware or inexpensive software downloads (less than $40.00 USD).

LilyPond is PC freeware; however, it's not a mouse-driven program. You input the music in ASCII text form using a special code language (not hard to learn). The output is neatly formatted, perhaps the best looking you can get on a computer.

For Linux, there is Rosegarden, which is a general-purpose audio/MIDI composer/sequencer/editor. It's only distributed as source code, so you'll have to do the compiling yourself.

Thanks!

I'll check out Lilypond. :)

Does anyone know where to find computer amplifier programs? I had a friend who had a really cool one where there are different amp sounds and effects programmed into it, but I forgot what it was called.

You mean Freeamp?

I have been using PowerTab http://www.power-tab.net. Tabs can be setup for various stringed basses, you just simply enter the tabs, the program displays the tablature and adds the notation above. It looks professional, plays back midi and best of all its free.
