Phil Jones Bass Owners' Club

I guess it's time for me to join the club after admiring these amps for a while!

I found out about the Double Four Plus from PJB's site a couple weeks ago and immediately went into search mode, and after a short email exchange purchased one from Ikebe Music, following @Queue's footsteps. The final price ended up quite reasonable at just over 79,000 JPY, which at the current exchange rate came out to ~$514, shipped and insured with FedEx.

Loving this amp so far! It's incredible how well it handles a low B at max volume, no farting (but maybe a bit of clipping from my G&L's hot output) and it sounds absolutely huge for such a diminutive package. I'm a big fan of the Bluetooth connectivity and it sounds great streaming music for practice, too.

On top of all that, I snagged it in a "limited edition" Forest Green color!

Big shoutout to the staff at Ikebe Music too, they were incredibly helpful and fast shipping out my order!
Super cool!

They didn't offer an Andromeda finish to match with your new G&L? :smug:

I'm still thinking about getting the double 4, but I'm upset by the top position of the power plug when the amp stands vertical.

I've never seen a photo of the double 4 vertical with the power cord, but I bet it looks ridiculous?
Here you go. Mine came with a right angle power cord, which makes a big difference IMO. It's noticeable if you're paying attention but definitely not too ridiculous.

That is very very cool.
I'm thinking about getting a PJB set up now too, to replace a GK/Barefaced rig.

Thanks a lot, I agree it's ok with that cable. It changes everything.

EDIT: I've just ordered the Double 4, red version, used.
Thanks to you all for your advices.

I am looking at a PJB Bass Engine 17 to use in a two person jazz jam at a friend’s house.

I’m sure that I am not the first person to ask about this amp, but I haven’t had much luck with the search function since the upgrade. I realize that the search issue is probably pilot error as opposed anything to do with TB.

Does anyone have experience with this amp? Is there any advice that anyone can share regarding pluses or minuses?

Thanks in advance!

Very nice! I hadn't seen the green variant! Mine gets used most frequently of all my amps. ...and yes, Ikebe Music rocks!

I think this hardly counts for club membership but I recently got a Phil Jones Micro-Force 200W bass head as a backup for my somewhat-unreliable main head. It's great! Very solid construction, quiet, good sound, all the features I want. It'll be my main before long, I'm sure. View attachment 6987519
Fixed it for you.

I like the green. Wish it was available in the US.

PJB will be at Sweetwater on Aug. 10 for Guitar Fest!

Thanks for all that responded. I was able to get an original power supply for my D4. Played it for the first time last night with my P bass. Great little amp, but you all already knew that.

I ended up getting the BAM200 and a C2! I brought it to the regular open mic I help run to test it out -- I could have just used the house amp but I couldn't pass up the chance to use my new gear! It worked great actually! We didn't have my whole band there so there was less stuff to keep up with but it was more than enough with the volume on the amp set quite low even. I feel like the sound I was getting is close to the sound I get in my home music room, playing with my sansamp into studio monitors, compared to my Fender Rumble which colors the sound much more.

And then the other important bit is how easy it was to pack all this stuff into my car, and bring it up the stairs! This is what i was looking for!

Two inputs is an unexpected bonus with the BG-400. Unexpected because I did not believe I'd ever have a use for two inputs (not a doubler). For a teacher, it is perfect. I plug her into the second line, and we're off. And we can work with a backing track from the AUX IN, nae problemo.

It's the amp I do all my own work with, of course. Except <ahem> I do enjoy cranking the Elf with two Cab27s :woot:

That's a great "one trip" setup! I wish Fender still made that gigbag. I bought one of those for my Jag SS too!

Update: I've got my Double 4 today, I'm super happy with it. It's hard to believe that such a tiny amp can sound so good and so loud. Thanks again.

There are only really two types og bass players, those who own a D4 and those that wish they owned a D4. Of course there is the rare exception of the bass player that doesn't like the D4, and I can only assume that said bass player also likes to lick frogs.

Edit: I want to apologise for saying that last sentence, I in no way want to infer a negative image of frog lickers.

I'm warning you: I hope you don't say this because I'm French! Buy the way, it's time to denounce an erroneous cliché: the French don't eat frogs' legs. In any case, I've never eaten one, and I know very few French people who have.

Category #3: Those who never heard about Phil Jones
Category #4: Those who think it's just a toy
Category #5: Those who refuse to fall into categories

I believe, it was a substance use joke, as there's a pretty large difference between eating frogs' legs and licking toads.

anyway, I hope, you enjoy your D4 as I dig mine for almost a decade. for me it was a road to other Phil Jones gear, I own and also like.
