Where do you eat after shows??

I’ve done about every late night spot in Denver for post 2am food. One of my favorite now defunct places was called Mary Jane’s Pizza. They were open from 11pm to 4:20am and hung signed pizza boxes from all of the bands and entertainers that made it a regular haunt.

What is the go to post-gig food spot in your neck of the woods?
Here in central/eastern NC the most popular spot after a late night gig is Waffle House. It’s really the only thing open 24 hours that has dine in. For a many years when all the guys I played with lived closer together we all ate our “all star specials” together after every gig.

I usually eat well before I gig, because
I learned that when hitting the stage on an empty stomach, beer (and other beverages) will run straight through me and I'll start doing that weird dance with the thighs pressed firmly together, hopping from one foot to the other two songs before break and rush off to the backstage restroom before the last note has faded.

The big advantage of that is that I'm not that hungry after a gig and do not have to add processing food to my list of things that may keep me awake longer than strictly necessary. During gig season I work weekends, so my usual gig means rushing home from work, getting dressed and grabbing my gear (plus food), then on to the venue, soundcheck, eating, off we go, then tearing down, lugging the stuff back where it needs to go and off home to hit the hay as fast as possible to get what rest can be had before another work day starts.

I try not to do it anymore, but in Istanbul we have zillions of places which are open 24/7 including but not limited to soup houses (specialized in tripe soup and derivatives), doner/gyro wraps, all sorts of kebabs, vegetarian food, you name it... It is quite easy to gain unhealthy weight in this town!

Back in Davis, CA, it was either Lyon's (I am not sure if it is still there), In'N'Out, or some spicy crispy chicken sandwich from Jack in the Box.

Soon after I moved to New York, it is all sorts of stuff including late night sushi!

When I was working in the Carolinas, it was always Waffle House. In New England, most places we play feed us. I get a half-grinder of something, eat half of it while we set up, put the other half in a to-go box and eat it when I get home. I gave up fried anything about 10 years ago. I confess, I do miss Waffle House. (Note: photo is from a rare daylight visit.):D

Part of it is where can you safely park your car with your gear in it?

This is the dilemma.

Drive-thrus (yuck) or grab some takeout from the venue. I used to envy my bandmates in a folk group, the pianist had nothing in her car, the fiddler and accordion player could bring their cases inside. Meanwhile I had my upright plus the PA waiting to be stolen in my minivan. They'd hit an all night diner while I was already on the road home :(

Most of my gigs are service clubs these days. Usually end around 11P; then breakdown and home somewhere 12 - 1, commute depending.

My metabolism is glacial these days; so, no munchies. But, I have been known to grab a bourbon on the rocks and play a bit of Skyrim to unwind. Nice not to have to shower down the cig smoke anymore.

bassslinger e,

experience has taught me to hold out for a healthy breakfast... just saying and not telling.

by the way: our tour slang for one trough mentioned here is "awful house" but we got em also for similar stuff.

don't mean to dump any dampers in the pampers though, let your freak flag fly. I think life is for learning.
